This is the Bardwell's Ferry Bridge. It's an old favorite, one that I've photographed many times over many years - since high school actually, whoa. I'm drawn here, especially when other sites feel tired from appearing too many times in the photo folder. This place seems to always have something. And it fits nicely with the Urban Texture series I've been playing with of late. The tags left by others (are they vandals or artists?) caught my eye on a recent visit. No reassuring message here, just...a mark. Thinking waaaay back to a Drawing II class, there's the idea of a work having a residue - that build-up of charcoal or graphite or crayon many times applied, erased, re-drawn - that gives the drawing depth and character. And substance. Too deep for graffiti? Maybe. But I think the kids who left their marks on these trusses and guardrails gave the bridge that much more character.
