Summer Notions
There is, in this season, an ideal of summer. It’s a notion and feeling that’s tricky to describe - a mixture of nostalgia, clichés, and restlessness - but I feel it in my bones every year, as the air gets balmy and the fireflies get busy.
Consider the imagery of rope swings over swimming holes, strolling & napping among hay fields, midnight skinny-dips, the aforementioned fireflies, conversations with friends over cold beer and charcoal grills that last long into the extended light of evening. Summer. It is its own kind of inspiring, and I’m glad it’s finally here.
