Blog - Inspiration Hunt

Occasional chronicles of seeking, finding, using inspiration.

Stalled

How does the saying go - "man plans, God laughs" - or something? Certainly, being knocked on my ass by the flu for 10 days, at the height of summer loveliness, was not part of my plans. It did, however, serve to cap an equally pesky ailment of the creative variety.

That is, staying focused, inspired, and sticking to routines had become a tall order of late. And the flu blew any remnants of those things right out of the water. I also could blame the summer's go-play influence but there's something deeper at work.

Hunting for inspiration was about collecting things/ideas that excite, and using that excitement to press on with the work that the creative process demands. It doesn't always work that way. Unanswered questions about value, purpose, and bringing all the pieces together, inflamed a questioning of all of it. Man questions, God says stay in bed for a week and see what questions remain?

Remaining question #1: Now what? My hope is to take advantage of the slate wiped clear by ailments, both creative and physical, and form a new picture of the work that is essential, and the work that is not. And to soak up every last bit of summer that remains.
