Negative Space

During what became a hiatus between posts, I was reminded of the kind of inspiration that drives one away rather than towards something. That is to say, I was reminded of the things I do not want to do as an artist, craftsman, & thinker. Scraping money together to make ends meet, returning to the absurd demands and narrow minded culture of a previous job…or any job like it, feeling defeated, or unmotivated, are all on the “Do Not Want” list. It’s been a long winter facing all of those undesirable prospects in some manner. But, sometimes I find the do-not-wants are the most visible markers in an otherwise nebulous search for new ideas and the excitement to drive them. The negative space defines the positive, flagging the obstacles to avoid.
