Luck

“Good luck to you” is a send-off so common that it slides off the psyche without much thought or impact. Yet, recently while binging on the final season of "Longmire" on Netflix, the title character uttered those words with enough sincerity and gravitas to break them loose, to give them impact. I found myself paying real attention to the depth of wishing someone good luck

See, this is not the first time I’ve ventured out into the space of artist/creative/maker person. Some half dozen years ago I left a gruesome day job and took what I called a sabbatical for one year. It was to be a time for making art and establishing a living from that art. I was convinced that if I treated my art making as a full time job, worked diligently at it, that, combined with some talent and a lot of door to door inquiries, all else would follow. I was wrong. At the end of that year, I had learned a tough lesson: that hard work and talent are all well and good, but “making it” is much more about who you know…and how lucky you are.

In that regard, wishing someone good luck is one of the highest blessings one can bestow upon someone else.
